The Post-Graduate Program in Interdisciplinary Surgical Science at the Escola Paulista de Medicina - Universidade Federal de São Paulo, of a stricto sensu nature, has as its objective the scientific-technological development and the training and improvement of professors and researchers, having graduated until June 2020, 243 masters and 138 PhDs.
The Program began on May 03,1975 (Assent MEC 726/75), accredited as a Postgraduate Program in Surgical Gastroenterology. In 2012, after the realignment of its thematic content, the Program was then named the Post-Graduate Program in Interdisciplinary Surgical Science. The choice of this new name was made based on the conception of a more comprehensive program, with more specific areas of concentration and composed of lines of research that represents a joint work, in an interdisciplinary method, consisting of researchers from several areas of knowledge in surgery, Who develop both experimental and clinical research per se.
This realigned postgraduate program, of a stricto sensu nature, has as its objective the scientific-technological development and the training and improvement of professors and researchers, having graduated until June 2017, 210 masters and 120 PhDs. Yet, as part of our activities is the Postdoctoral Program, which currently has six researchers, all involved in the development of original research projects under the responsibility of the program's adjunt supervisors.
In order to reach these objectives, a curriculum of academic activities and disciplines of the area of concentration and related field was structured, with the purpose of awakening in the postgraduate the interest for the critical evaluation of the scientific information and, mainly, the awareness of the necessary Clinical epidemiology tools for the elaboration of scientific research and its dissemination.
The direct involvement of students in activities such as the preparation of presentations, critical demonstrations on scientific research projects, methodology topics and the development of scientific research are early encouraged, within an annual program that is constantly renewed. The disciplinary structure in modules of research lines of the program is the central axis of development of all these activities.
In addition, the interdepartmental and interinstitutional activities integration at UNIFESP-EPM has enabled researches' development with sophisticated imaging technologies, laboratory procedures for analysis of the expression of molecular structures and modern methods of functional studies of the various devices.
During this period, several formal scientific cooperation agreements were implemented, which allowed the development of research centers in other institutions, such as the Federal University of Pará, State University of Alagoas, Federal University of Alagoas and Fundação Pio XII - Hospital de Cancer of Barretos, SP, Federal University of Maranhão, Federal University of Grande Dourados, among other institutions in our country. In addition, international cooperation activities have been developed with renowned international institutions such as University of California (Prof. Marco G. Patti), Hôpital Paul Brousse - Université Paris XI (Prof. René Adam), Institut Henri Bismuth (Prof. Henri Bismuth), University Hospital Zurich-Division of Visceral and Transplant Surgery (Prof. Pierre Alain Clavien), Seoul National University Hospital Prof. Hee Won Jung and Jae-Hoon Song), Université Pierre et Marie Curie and Hôpital Saint Antoine , Paris (Prof. Olivier Soubrane) and University of Pittsburg.
