1. Purpose of the PhD Program

Stricto sensu graduate degree aimed at training professionals capable of developing research to generate, expand, consolidate and disseminate scientific knowledge in Nursing and Health, contributing to the development of nursing science and other health sciences and creating or strengthening research groups.

During the doctorate course, students must publicly defend a thesis characterized as innovative research that contributes, in an original way, to the generation of knowledge in Nursing and Health. They must also take courses related to their area of concentration and related domain, undergoing partial and general exams, and proving their reading proficiency in a foreign language.


2. Target students

Nurses, other health professionals and the general public, with Master’s degrees from recognized higher education institutions.


3. Obtaining title

To obtain the Doctorate Degree, the graduate student must fulfill, within a minimum period of 24 and a maximum period of 48 months, a total of 40 Credit Units. Credits may be obtained in disciplines or activities developed in the Program or in other Graduate Programs accredited by Capes. Each credit unit corresponds to 15 hours of activities.


4. Scholarships & Grants

The Academic Graduate Programs offered by the Federal University of São Paulo are free of charge, but the availability of subsistence grants depends on development agencies.

Student must be regularly enrolled and be eligible according to Capes criteria.

 5. Admission

Admissions to the Post-Doctorate Course of the Graduate Program in Nursing take place continuously throughout the year. The candidate must contact their Supervisor Professor directly.

 6. Enrollment

Candidates for the Postdoctoral Internship Program must send an email to <posgraduacao.epe@unifesp>; requesting guidance on the beginning of the enrollment process.

After the enrollment process has been started, the department will send the candidate the address of the PROPGPq website for the provision of personal and academic data and submission of copies of the following documents:

6.1. Personal identity card (“R.G.”);
6.2. Electoral Card (“Título de eleitor”) - for Brazilian Citizens;
6.3. Letter of submission for publication of an article or previously published article in an ISI journal as the first author (the article must be associated with the candidate’s Doctoral project).
6.4. Copy of the doctorate certificate or diploma or proof of certificate/diploma request (thesis defense minutes are not acceptable);
6.5. Letter of Approval from the Research Ethics Committee or Protocol of Project Submission, stating the name of the candidate (to be forwarded up to 6 months from the date of submission of the Final Opinion into the Ethics Committee, conditioned to enrollment cancellation if the final consent for research development fails to be demonstrated). For projects involving another institution, the project must mandatorily be presented to the Unifesp Ethics Committee, regardless of having already been approved by the Ethics Committee of the other institution;
6.6. Research Project – maximum of ten pages, Arial font size 11, line spacing 1.5 and containing the following items:

6.6.1. Title;
6.6.2. Objectives, with definition and delimitation of the object of study;
6.6.3. Methodology;
6.6.4. Schedule of research activities and subsequent phases, encompassing the entire Project span;
6.6.5. Activity plan, indicating the existence of infrastructure at the Institution to enable the execution of the proposed work and of the activity schedule (with the supervisor’s formal approval);
6.6.6. Bibliographical references.
