Management and Education in Nursing and Health
Fundamentals, Methods, Processes and Technologies in Nursing and Health
Area of Concentration: Nursing, Care and Health
The “Nursing, Care and Health” area of concentrationcomprises the study of the theories, concepts, principles, methods and instruments that guide nursing management’s practical aspects, use of technologies, coordination and care, and the development of healthcare at the individual and collective levels. The Research Lines that structure this area of concentration are:
Research Focus: Clinical Nursing and Health Care (CCES)
Comprises research aimed at studying the care of individuals and groups, their problems and health needs. These researches are derived from questions identified in clinical practice, during investigative work and experimentation regarding problem-solving interventions, through the application of inductive, deductive and instrumental techniques of investigation. It also encompasses research related to the analysis of the effects of nursing actions and interventions on the clinical outcomes and human responses to the health-disease process. This line of research has as its investigative field:
Clinical Care in the Life Cycle
Comprises studies related to nursing care, understood as a set of attitudes and actions based on systematized knowledge and the use of technologies centered on the individual and integral needs of the patient and family, so as to acquire knowledge of, maintain or improve health conditions, promoting the relief of suffering and human dignity throughout the life cycle.
Research Focus: Nursing Care and Health in the Collective Dimension (CCSDC)
Includes research whose object of investigation is health as a social phenomenon of public interest, establishing a dialogue between human sciences and health sciences, directed to the care provided to individuals in social groupsas well as in the dimension of collective-health knowledge and its practices, based on the understanding that clinical practice, epidemiology and the human and social sciences are inseparable components. This line of research includes the following investigative fields:
Determinants of the health-disease process
Its structuring premise is to work with population segments using socioeconomic, biological, environmental and clinical determinants, while relating them to the health-disease-care process. This investigative field develops epidemiological studies that support the assessment of measures for health promotion, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and conditions, so as to improve knowledge on the population and recognize/come up with measures, indicators and health surveillance actions, contributing to public and social policies.
Social and Human Sciences Applied to Health and Nursing
Employs theories from the field of human and social sciences to understand phenomena related to human subjectivity and/or social relations, considering symbolic and imaginary aspects of human diversity and identity, citizenship and social inclusion/exclusion, the health-disease-care process and its multiple interpretations. It discusses the work of classic thinkers, reflecting on the production of contemporary knowledge, its tendencies and objects.
Care in the context of health promotion
Comprises studies related to human care provided to individuals in their respective social groups across different health, social and teaching equipment, with an emphasis on health promotion. This care is understood as a form of expression and connection with others, from the perspective of respect for people, for the world and for a dignified life.
Research Focus: Management and Education in Nursing and Health (GGEES)
Develops studies meant to apply administrative theories, processes and instruments to the management of health and nursing services as well as to the management of the resources needed for the provision of care and for the evaluation of services. Also includes studies on nursing and health education, and nursing work processes. This line of research includes the following investigative fields:
Management of Health and Nursing Services
Comprises studies based on the history, theories, concepts and instruments of administration as applied to health service management, resource management, nursing work processes and to the evaluation of services and accreditation models.
Health and Nursing Education Policies, Practices and Technology
Encompasses studies whose object of investigation contemplates the interface between health and education, both in educational practices aimed at health promotion as well as in practices related to policies and the professional training process in health and nursing. Also contemplates continuing education and the use of technologies.
Research Focus: Fundamentals, Methods, Processes and Technologies in Nursing and Health (FMPTES)
Comprises studies on the philosophical foundations, theories and concepts that guide the different dimensions of nursing care, as well as the development and use of methods, processes and technologies for the implementation of nursing care in the life cycle’s health-disease process at both the individual and collective levels. This line of research includes the following investigative fields:
Care Process in Nursing
Studies the construction and validation of conceptual models and theories concerning health and nursing, as well as the operationalization of the care process and the development and use of methods, instruments and technology for the implementation of nursing care.
Informatics, Information Technology and Communication in Health and Nursing
Studies theories, principles and processes of production and development of information and communication systems in health and nursing teaching, care, research and management.
