Master's Degree Admission

Each permanent professor can guide a maximum of 6 (six) students both at master's and doctoral levels.
Each collaborating professor can guide a maximum of 2 (two) students at master's and doctorate levels, conditioned to the total PPGSC orientations, so as not to exceed 20% of the total number of students under the responsibility of collaborating professors.
Thus, in each selection process, a number of vacancies that reflect the availability of PPGSC advisors at that time will be offered.

The selection process for selecting new students occurs at least once a year, usually in November. Occasionally, in cases when vacancies from the previous process remain, half–year selection may occur.
The rules for the selection process will be disclosed by a notice published on the PPGSC website. PPGSC master's degree students can sequentially start the doctorate program.

The annual reenrollment of all students is necessary, subject to submission and approval of half–yearly reports, which should contain the description of the activities developed in the semester, in adequacy to the work plan given in the enrollment. Reenrollment may not be effected in the case of student’s low performance, non-compliance with program requirements, low frequency or other issues that compromise the quality of the master's or doctorate process.

Half–Yearly Report

The half–yearly report is mandatory for all students enrolled in the PPGSC. December 20 and June 30 each year are the deadlines for reporting. The year–end report (December) must contain a summary of whole–year activities and will be evaluated for reenrollment purposes.

Mandatory Undergraduate Teaching Internship for CAPES Scholarship Holders

Internship activities will comprise theoretical and practical classes in the Collective Health field. These activities must be developed over 1 (one) semester for Master's degree and 2 (two) semesters for Doctorate, maintaining the entitling time. Maximum number of credit units for the Teaching Internship is 5 (five) (75 hours) for the Master's degree, and 10 (ten) (150 hours) for the Doctorate. To calculate the hours, students must fill out a specific form and forward it for the PPGSC education board to prepare the certificate. It is important to add this information to the Half–Yearly Report. The teaching internship should be performed ONLY in curricular units offered by professors in the department of Preventive Medicine.

Participation in congresses

The program annually receives PROAP-CAPES budget, in variable value, which aims to assist students to pay the registration or a hotel for participation in congresses. Students should request it to the coordinator of the area of knowledge, who will also divide the resource between students from different professors. For this aid, the student must prepare a work presentation, in which he/she is the first author and the advisor is the last author.

A credit unit is equivalent to 15 hours of class. Students who obtain credit in activities (courses) held in other Graduate Programs (from UNIFESP or not) must give the PPGSC education board an evidential document (certificate), in which they should include: location, type of activity, course load, the responsible’s and the student’s names. This document should also include the advisor’s awareness and agreement.

PPGSC has elective and mandatory disciplines. The mandatory discipline "Construction of the Collective Health field" must be attended by all PPGSC students. However, other required mandatory subjects depend on the area of knowledge of the student's research project.
Therefore, students who develop their projects in the field of Social and Human Sciences in Health, the mandatory discipline is "Social and Human Sciences in Health." In the case of a project in the Epidemiology field, they must study "Epidemiology" and "Basic Topics in Biostatistics." For projects involving Policy, Planning and Management, the mandatory discipline is the "Theory of Health Organization and Management."
It is also noteworthy that the optional disciplines are closely related to the lines of research of the program and give the student instruments, such as themes, theories and methodologies. They are chosen from the advisor’s indication or the students’ needs with the advisor’s consent.
Eighty percent of the credit must be obtained with disciplines.
The advisor can assign 20% of the credit to research activities or participation in events in the area. Thirty percent of the credit from the courses can be obtained outside UNIFESP, as long as approved by the advisor. Classes occur from Monday to Friday, from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, following a half–yearly calendar. Each discipline has a specific load and schedule to be checked on the PPGSC website (

Criteria for the scholarship holders are defined by the agencies and by PPGSC.
Scholarship holders cannot have employment relationship.
All students who request the program scholarships (CAPES and CNPq) should also try scholarship with FAPESP (submission made directly by the student and advisor on
In the case of CAPES and CNPq PPGSC quota scholarships, the candidate will be appointed by the advisor, by a specific form, which will be evaluated by CEPG. For granting the scholarship, students must meet CAPES requirements and the requirements established by PPGSC CEPG:

General information

Unifesp's Graduate Program in Collective Health (PPGSC) offers those interested in the master's or doctoral course the opportunity to participate in the Selection Process, held at the end of each year and, exceptionally, in the middle of the year, when vacancies are available.
Candidates must have updated CV Lattes, have completed undergraduation (and master's degree, for doctoral candidates) and attest approval in English proficiency test held in the last 5 years.
Candidates must always appoint an advisor. Therefore, they must observe CV Lattes, the line of research, research area and projects in which professors are involved.
PPGSC has a limited number of scholarships that are allocated according to the standards defined by the funding agencies (CAPES and CNPq) and the PPGSC Bylaws.
The Selection Process rules are available on the PPGSC website and widely disseminated by social media.
Candidates are selected by a written test. Approved candidates are submitted to interview and analysis of the CV Lattes.
The following are exempted from the selection process:
a) candidates for the doctorate who came from Unifesp’s PPGSC master's degree, entitled in the last five years and who present a letter of acceptance by an advisor; b) candidates who already have scholarships approved by funding agencies (FAPESP, CNPq and CAPES) and that refer directly to the candidate's dissertation project.
Additional information can be obtained by an electronic message forwarded to the Program education board (
