Regina Cândida Ellero Gualtieri has graduated in Social Sciences, she is a Master in Education and a Ph.D. in Social History from the University of São Paulo (USP). She was a visiting researcher at the “Instituto de Historia del Centro de Ciencias Humanas y Sociales (CSIC) in Madrid”. At the Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp), she is a teacher in the area of History of Education in the Pedagogy Course, of which she was coordinator and is a member of the editorial team of Revista Olh @ res from the Department of Education. She studies the history of the school with a focus on school failure - failure, grade repetition, and dropping out - and its causes, guiding dissertations and theses on these themes. It investigates the influence of eugenist and medical-hygienist conceptions in the formulation of educational policies, curricular reforms, teaching practices and, considering these conceptions, has also investigated and guided works involving, in various historical circumstances, selection, segregation, and medicalization in education in association with school performance.
