The expansion of Unifesp into new campuses and the diversification of courses is part of the Support Program for Federal University Restructuring and Expansion Plans (Reuni). The participation of the Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp) in Reuni made it possible to increase resources for the installation of new campuses. Currently, Unifesp has the campuses of Baixada Santista, Diadema, Guarulhos, Osasco, São José dos Campos, São Paulo and, more recently, Zona Zona Leste, which allowed the expansion of places for higher education in the areas of humanities, biological sciences and exact, in addition to three extension units.
The Guarulhos campus was established in 2006, with the beginning of academic activities in the academic year of 2007. The Pedagogy, History, Social Sciences and Philosophy courses were the first graduations (undergraduate and bachelor's) offered. In the following years, courses in Literature and Art History were added to the curriculum.
At the same time that undergraduate teaching was consolidated, new proposals for Postgraduate programs were formed, in such a way that, in the current situation, in addition to the Graduate Program in Education (PPGE), the School of Philosophy, Letters and Human Sciences (EFLCH) at Unifesp has Postgraduate courses covering the areas of Social Sciences, Education and Health, Philosophy, History, Art History and Languages.
The Graduate Program in Education (PPGE) was recommended at the 141st meeting of the Technical-Scientific Council for Higher Education of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), on 11/27/2012.
The Program has, from 2013 to 2016, two lines of research:
1. Educational Policies and Educator Training;
2. Subjects, Knowledge and Educational Processes.
As of 2017, the PPGE has reorganized into five new lines, as a result of the development of the two previous lines:
Line 1: Education: Inequality, Difference and Inclusion;
Line 2: Education, State, Work;
Line 3: Public School, Teacher Training and Pedagogical Practices;
Line 4: History of Education: Subjects, Objects and Practices and
Line 5: Languages and Knowledge in Formative Contexts.
In 2018 the program has its doctoral course in Education approved by Capes, starting in 2019 its first doctoral class.
