Students who have passed the Qualification Exam are eligible to be submitted to an evaluation of their work to obtain a PhD. PhDs must be completed in 48 months or less.
A board of 7 possible evaluators will have to be submitted to the Program Committee for approval at least two month before the board receives the thesis. Students will then send their written work to the board members 30 days prior to the exam, marked according to the availability of the board members. Defenses are public and composed of an oral presentation of the work (20-40 min) followed by a defense to enquiries of all board members.
Other documents are necessary at this stage: confirmation of ethical approval of the Project; confirmation that the minimum number of course credits (40) was obtained; proof of proficiency in English (equivalent to the TOEFL exam score higher than 460).
All dissertations must acknowledge financial aid of CAPES and AFIP, as well as any other institution.
Alternatively to a traditional thesis, the work conducted during the PhD may also be composed of at least two published papers (or accepted for publication) relating to the research project and in which the graduate student is the first author. These publications must be preceded by a text that contextualized the work in the literature and be followed by a discussion that links all the findings.
