He graduated in Medicine from the University of Taubaté (1983); his residency in psychiatry at Hospital do Servidor Público Estadual - FMO, his master’s and Ph.D. in psychobiology at the Universidade Federal de São Paulo, where he is currently an assistant professor. He has experience in Public Health with emphasis on Health Sciences, acting on the following areas: drug abuse, epidemiology, addiction, prevention and treatment. At present he is dedicated to pre-clinical and clinical studies on drug use compulsion. Reviewer of 44 scientific articles and ad hoc consultant for FAPESP (Foundation for Research Support of the State of São Paulo) and CNPq (National Research Council). He was the advisor in 16 master’s dissertations, 11 Ph.D. thesis
