Graduated in Biomedicine from Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (1996), Master's (1999) and Ph.D. in psychobiology from Universidade Federal de São Paulo (2004) and Postdoctoral from Emory University (2010). Currently, Associate Professor and head of the Sleep Division at Universidade Federal de São Paulo. President of the National Council for Control on Animal Experimentation (Brazilian Ministry of Science and Technology – since 2015). In 2010, she was invited to be a Visiting Associate Professor at the Division of Neuropharmacology and Neurologic Disease (Yerkes National Primate Research Center, Emory University). In 2012, was invited to be Visiting Professor at Harvard Medical School (New England Primate Research Center). Educational Director of the of Sleep Institute and Researcher from the national council for research (CNPQ). Coordinator of sleep laboratories for mice and rats in the Department of Psychobiology. Affiliated member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, Brazilian Society of Sleep and World Association of Sleep Medicine. Reviewer on more than 80 international journals and a board member of the journal Sleep, Journal of Sexual Medicine among others; and Chief Editor OF Sleep Science. In 2007, she was awarded on Women in Science program by Loreal/Brazilian Academy of Sciences and UNESCO. Published over 360 papers in international scientific journals, and author of 4 books and more than 20 chapters. She has experience in Psychobiology and she is working on the following topics: sleep deprivation, endocrine regulation, sexual behavior, neurotransmission, neurobiology of drug abuse, pain mechanisms, sleep monitoring in rodents and ethical principles of animal research.
