The Graduate Program in Chemistry - Science and Technology of Sustainability at UNIFESP, established in 2011, is dedicated to cultivating professionals with a strong scientific and technological foundation. Our program is designed to achieve the following objectives:
-
Foster a comprehensive and contemporary understanding of sustainable development within the nation, spanning academic, scientific, and public domains.
-
Contribute to the improvement of the country's human development indices, benefiting both the nation and its communities.
-
Develop specialized and competent human resources capable of addressing the societal, promotional, and environmental demands of academia, industry, and regulatory and certifying bodies.
Sustainable development, in its broader context, involves meeting current needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own requirements. It seeks to strike a harmonious balance between economic and social development while safeguarding the environment. This theme calls for interdisciplinary research and influences various aspects of society, the economy, and the environment. To address these complex challenges, the formal study of sustainability has emerged as a distinct science. This science has established its own scientific and technological foundation while drawing from various existing fields, earning the designation "the science of sustainability."
